Any good dish has to start with the best ingredients and life is the same way. Years ago I had this chef’s knife that was part of a set that I really loved. I was using it to cut up all my veggies, fruits and meats. There was just one thing wrong with it.
It had a dull blade and therefore dangerous. I nicked myself many times using it. One day, I knew I had to save some money and really invest in a pro chef’s knife set.
God blessed that a relative bought me a professional knife set from Chicago Cutlery. You can just imagine my face when I laid my eyes on that and immediately I saw a change in how I prepped food. I had sharp knives that could cut through whatever I was preparing.
And that goes with everything about life. I gotta have the right tools for the job.
In other words, if I’ve receive bad news or a friend needs help, the right tool for that is to pray to Jesus for help.
If I’m feeling sad or afraid, I repeat encouraging scriptures to myself. I use the tools that God gives to do the job. Like that dull knife, sometimes I get dull too and don’t always use the right tools. So that’s when we need to sharpen our tools. That involves spending more time with God, in His Word and in prayer.
I can’t handle life’s issues all on my own, it’s way too hard but with God it’s more than manageable. He tells us to put on our full armor (Ephesians 6:11-18). And, that’s an everyday task.
You and I never know what’s coming and so prepping ourselves in God’s word, being in His presence, worship and praise are the best ingredients we could ever have.
