I’ve always loved cats. I think they’re the closest pet to perfection. They know themselves and they’re not afraid to demand attention! When they give you that look, it’s like they know they’ve got you and you’ll be their slave forever. They are so lovable and when I was sick or even down in the dumps, my cat knew it and comforted me. But, she also knew when I needed my alone time. I know not all cats are alike and some need more attention than others, but one thing I’ve always admired about them is their independence.

But in talking about perfection, this is an area I’m working really hard on. I have to stop trying to be so perfect! What? What I mean is, I hold myself to such a high standard and then I beat myself up when I don’t measure up to it and sometimes I go days brooding over this.

It’s not a good idea to be that hard on myself and I know God doesn’t like it either. How can we perfectionists accomplish take it easier on ourselves? First, let’s make it up in our little minds that if we don’t do everything on our task list that day, it’s not the end of the world… yet! LOL, Second, if we goof up, take a moment and laugh it off, not in a bad way but don’t take ourselves so seriously as if we’ve committed a felony. And, don’t forget to ask God to help us do what we can and cannot, He will help us.

Of course, this is a work in progress especially if this a common trait. For me, it definitely has been, but with the Lord’s help and my cooperation, I can get better at being more like what He wants me to be and not what I perceive myself to be or should be.
