Several years ago, hubby and I visited the safari game park in Bandon, Oregon. I loved the sheep and there was a bunch of them running around. I did more than photograph the sheep. I watched them.
As Jesus refers to us as His sheep, I was curious about their habits since I had never seen sheep in person before. They pretty much stayed together and they definitely followed anyone who had food for them. They were cute and not afraid to come close but I could tell they needed a caretaker. They’re not too careful about where they go, they needed someone to lead them.
That’s us, we need a caretaker. There’s many things outside our control that we can’t change. Our eyes can only see what’s in front of us, we can’t see impending dangers.
Sometimes, we follow whomever is leading not knowing if they mean us good or harm. We desperately need someone that loves us and takes care of us. That’s Jesus. And, like sheep we must trust the leader even when we don’t understand His methods.
I’m a thinker. My trouble is that I like to figure things out. I spend hours going over situations trying to analyze it…to understand it. I guess I have a deep desire to understand why things happen the way they do.
And because I do that, life gets frustrating when I can’t figure it all out. Jesus is TRYING to teach me through circumstances that it’s not necessary for me to comprehend it all in order to trust Him, but to just relax and let Him take the driver’s seat. I’m not always a fast learner LOL!
Sheep are precious to The Lord, because He likes for us to lean on Him. If we’re too self-sufficient, then we wouldn’t go to Him much or not at all.
Think about it…how can a newborn baby take care of him or herself? We all come into this world completely needy. And when we come to our Heavenly Father, again we are in need of His absolute care.
Knowledge, training, experience, work, common sense, wisdom…can only take us so far. Jesus, the God we Serve, goes from infinite to infinite.
Let’s all come to Him as little sheep looking only to Him for everything we need.
