We’re all about a healthier living, trying many ways to shed that extra weight. It’s not just to look good, but we’re realizing how important having good health is. And, because this is the only body we get to live in, I know Jesus wants us to take good care of it.

While it’s imperative to lose those extra physical pounds, it’s equally important to shed off the emotional pounds we can’t see.

I think that we get used to carrying weights we no longer need to. For example, we’re not as quick to get rid of junk like: fear, worry, anxiety, anger, unforgiveness, envy, and a whole host of other bad habits. When Jesus took our sins on the cross for us, He took these ugly weights so that we can live more freely with Him. From a physical side, when we have extra pounds, it affects our heart, our energy level, breathing/lungs, and even can cause severe back pain. When we carry extra spiritual pounds, they weigh us down too.

Ever wonder why sometimes you’re dragging through the day? Sometimes, you’re in a mood that you can’t shake…it could be you’re carrying extra weight rather than giving it to God to carry (Read Psalm 55:22 and 1 Peter 5:7).

To shake off that extra weight, we have to pray and give those problems to The Lord. He really will take our burdens away so that we can live and not just cope. I know it’s easier said than done, but the more you do something, the easier it becomes part of who you are. Jesus said in Matthew 11:28-30:

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (NIV)

I have to repeat these scriptures to myself a lot, cause it’s not a one-time thing. Life happens everyday and I need help all the time. At least I go to God sooner than I used to.

Know why?

I finally got it through my thick head that I can’t fix anything other than how I react. The best thing I can do is take my problems to Jesus and let Him take off unwanted pounds.
