As a young girl, she was always dreaming and fantasizing about what she wished her life was like. The reality was grim and to cope, she would draw, write and dream. She so wanted to be a princess that would be whisked away from her tragic home to live in a castle happily ever after.
That’s what life was like for her until she grew up. She was on my own for years without anyone to turn to. Sometimes it was scary, mosttimes it was lonely but she kept her emotions hidden. She is me.
When I first saw this set of photos, it brought me back to those childhood memories. I would hide in my closet with my tablet in hand, writing or drawing and just dreaming of being rescued.
But, also I saw something else when I looked that these pics, it was like I saw this fierce young lady on the inside who was independent and didn’t really count on being saved by anyone. I was like that in my teens, unafraid, bold and confident.
Life would soon catch up with her and throw her for a loop. She would find herself on the brink of self-destruction. Her life began to spin out of control and one fatal night she almost ended it…
But thanks be to God who visited her that night and her life would never be the same. She could again have that confidence but this time it was because He was guiding her, it was His power that she drew on. He was her Knight in Shining Armor. And He would walk beside her always.
The pups make excellent companions walking through the forest in the dead of winter.
In looking at these pictures, there’s so many things I love about her outfit and the photography too. First off, LOVE the gown. I could envision myself wearing it and my hair in fishtail braids with bold makeup.
I remember so many days drawing in my little book sitting on the floor of my closet and just letting my imagination take me to places that were beautiful, safe and surreal.
Fashion is also about dreaming, it’s existed for years and years. Every period in history has its own line of clothing. I’ve often wanted to try on costumes from this period just to imagine what it must have been like to live in that era.
Every generation draws us in through many looking glasses like travel, food, and fashion. Even though I didn’t live in that time period, I often wonder today what it would have been like to wear all those fabulous gowns living in large castles and going to balls.
I used to be that girl who dreamed of a rescuer and thanks to God for He is that to me now and evermore.
