One of my friends recently shared this on Facebook: “Practice the pause. When in doubt pause. When angry, pause. When tired, pause. When stressed, pause. And when you pause, pray.” (Roma Downey). I really thought about this long and hard and you know something? How many fights could have been stopped if we paused rather than acted, re-acted, or over re-acted? How many misunderstanding could have been avoided? Would our jails be overcrowded? Would there be less buried? How many emails would you like to take back?
Boy, I look at myself and know that if I would pause more, I wouldn’t make such silly decisions. It’s something that I have begun to practice more. I’m emotional and sometimes I’m too overly sensitive. So, before I would just reply in email quickly and hit the “send” button. But, now I take my time and re-read my reply to try to ensure that I say the right thing with the right tone especially since I’m not in front of the person I’m emailing.
God doesn’t want us to be in such a hurry. I’m really thankful that my hubby takes his time before making decisions. He really weighs the pros and cons and even does his research especially when he and I have to make a purchase for the business.
We both made not-so-great financial decisions before we met that now we’re really paying for (no pun intended!). Choices, good and bad, have long arms and they affect more than just me. It’s not about me, it’s about my hubby, our future, my relationship with others, my spiritual life… choice affects everything.
So, I asked The Lord to help me pause more, to pray more, to stop more and, to rest more BEFORE, not AFTER the fact.
