Ever feel like you want to go back to bed and start the day over again? I have! You have a good sleep but when you wake up, your day gets started immediately. There’s loads of housework to do, deadlines, meetings, the phone rings at 8 AM and if you have young kids at home…you have to get them ready for school and your head is spinning! Before you look around it’s noon and you remember that you haven’t even had your prayer time!
My days are lot like this: It gets started with emails/texts from my day job, deadlines and my to-do list just keeps getting longer. I easily get caught up in all this and before I know it, I’m frustrated, exasperated and exhausted before lunchtime.
I haven’t found an absolute regime for getting up in the mornings. I know need time with The Lord Jesus before I start anything. He is the one who woke me up and it’s His strength that I will need throughout the day so it makes sense that at least I need to acknowledge Him when my toes hit the floor right?!
But I admit, when my mornings don’t start with prayer, everything goes wrong. Case in point: I was trying to pay bills and some of the websites were buggy, I had to get on the phone several times to get it all straightened out. Then I had a conference call that didn’t go well and we received some stressful news. I found myself getting aggravated and frustrated at every little thing and by the time it was lunchtime, I was fit to be tied! What do you do when you don’t start the day right? STOP AND PRAY.
Yes, I stopped and walked away to go have a few minutes in prayer. It helped me get my mind right. I was able to calm down, get my bearings back and ask God for His help in looking at everything with a positive attitude. After that, an amazing thing happened. I got a Do-over! I was able to approach the rest the day so much better and it actually turned out to be a much better day. Thank God He is so patient with me! NOW, if I can start the day with prayer rather than go to God when my blood pressure rises, I’d be so much better off.
Don’t take having quiet time in prayer in the mornings for granted. You have no idea what the day with bring your way. Staying “prayed up” sends protection over you, it keeps the devil back and miracles can happen.
I know we don’t always start the day off right but THANK GOD, He gives us DO-OVER when we don’t do it right!
