As a given, we know when we make the choice to align ourselves with Jesus and His teachings, suffering will follow. I’ve experienced it on my jobs, in relationships and just even out running errands. Somehow we have to push through our problems and let the joy of The Lord shine through.
We tend to think our ministerial gifts are to be used within our local churches and that’s true to a point. However, the real work is outside the building. It’s in our neighborhoods, our grocery stores, our jobs, in our homes and our communities. Many people are looking for peace, a lasting joy…something that is not temporal… something eternal that they can hold onto. You and I as believers have that something inside us. If we can only look past what we’re going through to see that no matter what, in Christ there is real true joy. It’s an everlasting contentment you can’t find anywhere else.
When we let go of our problems and allow God to use us, not only will we do what He wants but in the meantime He’s taking care of our problems. I can’t guarantee that what you’re facing will go away overnight. What I can tell you is that as long as Jesus is first in your life, He will give you that joy that surpasses understanding and the people around you will notice it. They’ll see you stand tall in the midst of chaos smiling. You’re not immune to the problems around you, you’re just not allowing them to control you. Inside, you’re silently praying to God awaiting for Him to answer and keeping your peace while you wait.
Yes, there is joy even in the midst of confusion, adversity and even despair. We’re not promised a rosy life here on earth. But, God did promise to be with us through it all and with Him working in our hearts, He’ll strengthen us, help us when we call out to Him and He’ll make all our crooked paths straight. Now, that’s something to have joy about any day of the week!
