I love the small blessings that I know it could only be God that did it.
They are equally if not more important than the big miracles. It makes me feel special that God is always thinking about me whether I’m aware of it or not. These “little miracles” are what keeps my faith and hope going.
I remember when I was running my food blog, “Ordinary Recipes made Gourmet“, I used to receive food samples to review before the items went to the stores for selling.
One particular time, I was expecting to receive in the mail a new bread to sample. I was eager to get it because I knew it was a higher quality than we were able to afford at the time. During that part of our life, the economy had just experienced a collapse and small business owners like myself suffered first.
We lost 80% of our clientele and I remember quite clearly actually running out of food. Not a good place at that time, but somehow God kept us going.
Anyway, I went to the kitchen to make a sammy and as I was opening up the bread that I didn’t want to eat, I silently prayed that I could make that sandwich on the new bread.
Just as I was about to make the sandwich, there’s was a knock on the door…
“Who is it?”
The sample loaves of bread arrived! I danced all the way from the front door back to the kitchen!
And that was the best sammy I ever ate, I mean that! WOW, and I had not told anyone of my prayer. Only God knew it. I didn’t even know when the bread samples would arrive because we never got USPS tracking numbers from the company. God got all the praise!
A similar experience happened just a few months later…
This time, it was my hubby’s birthday. We had just enough money to buy him a birthday cake, but not enough to have both the cake and ice cream and I knew he wanted both.
Also, I was waiting for ice-cream sandwich samples to arrive but didn’t know when they would arrive.
On the day of his birthday, I was decorating the kitchen counter when again I asked The Lord for ice cream to go with the cake.
I’m serious….just then a knock on the door!!
“Who is it?”
The ice-cream sandwich samples came and we had them with the cake and both were so delicious! We had such a great celebration that night!
God’s done other sweet things like that for me, but I wanted to share these two experiences because they meant so much to me when we were in a low place at that time.
God knows how to encourage us when we downtrodden and He doesn’t always wait to gift us these blessings just during bad times. He blesses us “just because“.
He can work through other people or do it all Himself. But don’t discount His goodness just because it’s not a humongous, earth shaking, split “The Red Sea” miracle!
Those small blessings I got meant the world to me. Remember, all good gifts come from above! (James 1:17)
